Jam March 24, 2009 Carroll’s

dcc_0503_edited-1It was Wednesday night and I hauled my ass into the jam despite suffering from a bad cold over the previous 4 or 5 days.  It was a night I was trying  not to sing too many songs and it felt like I sang plenty.  Actually, my throat wasn’t killing me too badly until the Gloria at then end of the night.  I shouldn’t have tried that one.  I’ll be interested in seeing how many songs I ended up singing.  There were many good moments.  We had Jason on guitar and Scott Bayer and his new teeth played his C harmonica, though we never played a song in C.  Good thing I turned the extra microphone off immediately.  There were no other guests as Rich, Scott, Kevin and I filled out the band.

The music posted by Rich is available at the following link:

I got there pretty early and had a Daisey Mae for the first time in quite a while.  Gotta say the dry-rub ribs were a bit disappointing, but the sweet tea felt good on my troat all night long.  Speaking of which, the leftovers are burning in my toaster over as we blog.  I got to go.

Jam 2009-03-11 Carroll’s

This was a night that we had Jason on lead and the rest of the normal configuration with the exception of the abnormal configuration in the form of a harmonica playing Scott, and I don’t mean Gibson.  It was a fun night where we played lots of songs and ended with the moving, Lonely Avenue.  Scott, and I do mean Gibson, even remain up and alert through the entire evening.  There was a hot Hard to Handle and most songs were played well and confidently.

img_2815_edited-1This week we were in the nice cozy Studio 2 of Carroll’s.  Kevin was back with us after a week off and Jason was back for the thirs week in a row.  We played lots of hot stuff.   Kevin commented how good the music felt and it did feel good.   Rich’s friend Scott stepped in for a song or two and was mesmorized at the groove of our Jack-A-Roe.  The Hurts Me Too had good soul and tempo.  Jason’s slide tone on his aluminim necked guitar was screeching.  We played 17 songs, some big, some small some standard and some obscure.  It was a nice balance and variety and never got boring.  We even did the Stephen OK. Bijll is a smoking bassist

This was a week a Carroll’s where we missed Kevin who was with his family during his father’s heart issues, fortunately and miraculously in part of today’s great world, his been ripped open, fixed and on the road to recovery.  We wish him the best.  So Kevin couldn’t make it and fortunately for us Scott’s friend from downtown, Bill Lukashok was there with his Fender Bass and away we went.  He seemed to be into more of that old Dead which meshed well with Jason’s and Brotpen’s vibe.  In addition, we seemed to do well on some of the country songs.  There was a harpsord in the room and we put a microphone on it and used it for a China Doll anda Mountains of the Moon.

So we had Jason, me, Bill L. on bass, Scott and Rich.  We were in the big studio #3 but played a little small in a close circle at times.   Hey, how about that wacky, jugband style Cold Rain and Snow?  The songlist is below with a link to the MP3s.  Until next time.

Jam 2009-02-18 Carroll’s

2009-02-18_brotpenThe night represented the retun of Jason to the scene and we meandered our way nicely through the night.  We had some great stuff including the hot Morning Dew to set the pace of the night.  Click here of the link below to go to this listen to this evenening music.

There are several back-logged jams posted previous to this from mid-November 2008 to now that I just caught up on.  If you have anything about those night to add, please do so.  I made a few YouTube videos from one of the nights Trister and Scott from Ha;fstep p;ayed with us, so check that out.  I could have easily missed a night or mis-dated it especially since the date on my digiital camera was not accurate.

Anyway, I think I am up-to-date.  Let’s see how long we can sustain it.  I have been busy blogging by the way.  Check out my wine blog and my dog blog:

February 12, 2009 in Carroll’s studio #2.  We played with Bayside Russ on drums banging with Scott on the other set.  Bayside Al joined us with Kev and Rich doing their parts.  I recall the drums sounding good, I thing Scott and Russell worked well together.  No, Al D wasn’t playing poano all night.  That’s Brotpen’s role.
